Helen Beatrix Potter - The Classic Kid's Novelist

Beatrix Potter whose actual first name was Helen, was an English writer and also illustrator who was most widely known regarding her kid's books featuring anthropomorphic characters such as in the actual youngster's classic - The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

Beatrix was in fact born into a functional privileged household where she was educated by governesses and thereby spent her youth isolated from other young children. She previously had numerous pets and spent holidays in Scotland and the Lake District where she developed a fondness of the scenery, plants and creatures, all of which she meticulously viewed and painted. Her parents didn't ecourage her intellectual development as a young lady, yet her study along with paintings of fungi led to her being widely respected within the area of mycology.

In her thirties, Beatrix Potter wrote the remarkably successful children's book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Around that time she became secretly engaged to her publisher Norman Warne. This caused a rift with her father and mother, who did not approve of Beatrix marrying someone of lower social status. Sadly though, Warne past away ahead of the wedding ceremony.

Ultimately Beatrix Potter began publishing and illustrating children's books full time. With the earnings from her publications, she grew to become economically independent of her parents and was ultimately able to buy Hill Top Farm in the Lake District. She extended the property with various other acquisitions over time. In her forties, Beatrix wedded William Heelis, a local solicitor. She ended up becoming a sheep breeder and farmer while continuing to write and also illustrate children's novels. As a whole she authored twenty-three children's books.

Beatrix died on 22nd December 1943, and left almost all of her property to the National Trust. Her publications carry on selling well across the world, in a mixture of languages. Her tales have been retold in various formats including a ballet, films, and in animation.

Such is her recognition, and also that of the characters from her publications, that lots of Beatrix Potter figurines were manufactured. These Beatrix Potter figurines which include just about all the characters in her books have become incredibly collectable as well as valuable.
