Identifying the baby boom generation probably should begin with the explanation of the U.S. Department of the Census. There were lynchings and murders, violent demonstrations and assassinations such as that of Martin Luther King Jr. Also the many peaceful actions and presentations resulted in uneasiness because they demanded revolutionary alterations to the status quo.
Environmentalism and the movement for women's rights also brought on some upheaval, although this was hardly ever violent. The arrival of the Vietnam War and also the military draft that followed it resulted in unprecedented anti-war activism and resistance.
